ME109_CG3_0001.jpg (22394 bytes) A pivotal point in the film  involves the dramatic dogfight between the American Tuskegee P51, and a German Messerschmitt 109 (Me109).  The choreographed dogfight sequence maintained real world flight dynamics while seamlessly blending into their live action backgrounds.  Visit our dogfight section to see how it was done.
The dogfight culminates in the German Me109 finally being hit by the American red tail P51 and sent crashing into the densely populated POW compound.  In order to have the CG fighter jet realistically interact with the live action POW compound as it crashes through it, extensive compositing and plate manipulation was required.  Check out our crash section to see how all of the CG and practical elements were combined to achieve the frightening and devastating crash. hw_crash_0001.jpg (45611 bytes)
hw_othervfx_0001.jpg (55682 bytes) In addition to the CG dogfight and crash, there were many other visual effects shots that were completed for the film.  Enhancing and compositing live action explosions to augment the factory exploding, CG dust, sky replacements, and various other digital manipulations  were among the other visual effects shots.  Visit our other visual effects section to see these shots.
